Nottingham Trent University (NTU) ย้อนไปเมื่อปี 1883 ได้มีการจัดตั้ง Nottingham Government School of Design ซึ่งถือเป็นโรงเรียนด้านการออกแบบที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในประเทศอังกฤษและยังเปิดสอนมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน ต่อมาในปี 1992 จากเดิมที่เคยใช้ชื่อว่า Trent Polytechnic ก็ได้รับการสถาปนามาเป็น Nottingham Trent University มีสาขาวิชาที่มีชื่อเสียงคือ สาขาวิชาการตลาด ศิลปะ รวมไปถึงการออกแบบ โดยนักศึกษาจะได้มีโอกาสร่วมฝึกงานกับผู้เชี่ยวชาญในสายอาชีพนั้นๆ รวมไปถึงได้รับโอกาสในการร่วมงานกับองค์กรของชั้นนำต่างๆ และยังได้รับการประเมินดีเยี่ยมในด้านการเรียนการสอนที่มีคุณภาพระดับสากลโดย QS นั่นคือ ด้านความหลากหลายของนักเรียน, คุณภาพการสอน, การจ้างงานของนักเรียนหลังสำเร็จการศึกษา, การสร้างความสัมพันธ์ และสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกที่มีมาตรฐาน อีกทั้งได้รับการจัดอันดับให้เป็นหนึ่งในมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีความใส่ใจในเรื่องของสิ่งแวดล้อมมากที่สุด หรือ the UK greenest universities เป็นเวลาต่อเนื่องกันกว่า 8 ปีซ้อน

NTU ตั้งอยู่ในเมืองน็อตติ้งแฮม ซึ่งเป็นเมืองที่โด่งดังสำหรับการเรียนและมีค่าครองชีพต่ำ เป็นเมืองที่อยู่ใจกลางของประเทศอังกฤษ ซึ่งการเดินทางไปยังเมืองต่างๆ นั้นมีความสะดวกสบายมาก ไม่ว่าจะทางเครื่องบิน รถโค้ช หรือรถไฟ การเดินทางไปลอนดอน, แมนเชสเตอร์ และเอดินบะระนั้นใช้เวลาเพียง 2 ชั่วโมงโดยรถไฟ หากต้องการเดินทางไปเบอร์มิงแฮมจะใช้เวลาเพียง 1 ชั่วโมง นอกจากนี้ การเดินทางไปยังต่างประเทศใกล้เคียง เช่น ฝรั่งเศสและอิตาลีก็มีความสะดวกสบายเป็นอันมาก
