University of Westminster เริ่มต้นจากการเป็นวิทยาลัยสารพัดช่าง หรือ โพลีเทคนิค แห่งแรกของประเทศอังกฤษ ใช้ชื่อว่า The Royal Polytechnic Institution ก่อตั้งโดย William Mountford ในปี 1837 จากนั้นสองปีต่อมา Sir George Cayley บิดาแห่งวิศวกรรมศาสตร์การบินได้ขึ้นดำรงตำแหน่งประธานบริหารและได้พัฒนาในด้านวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีอย่างต่อเนื่อง ต่อมาได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยในปี 1992 และใช้ชื่อว่า University of Westminster ปัจจุบันมีนักศึกษามากกว่า 20,000 คน จาก 150 ประเทศทั่วโลก ได้รับการยกย่องให้เป็นเลิศด้านการเรียนการสอนแห่งหนึ่งของกรุงลอนดอน ให้ความสำคัญกับนักศึกษาในการพัฒนาทักษะ และประสบการณ์ที่เกี่ยวข้องเพื่อประสบความสำเร็จในอนาคตมายาวนานกว่า 175 ปี มีวิทยาเขตหลักสี่แห่งด้วยกัน คือ ใจกลางลอนดอน 3 แห่ง และฮีธโทรว์ มอบคุณภาพทางวิชาการที่โดดเด่น มีบุคลากรการสอนที่เชี่ยวชาญ มีงานวิจัยระดับนานาชาติที่เชื่อมโยงกับธุรกิจจริง มีหลากหลายสาขาวิชาให้เลือกเรียน ในทุกระดับ และคณะวิชา โดยหลักสูตรต่างๆ มุ่งเน้นให้ความสำคัญกับการศึกษาเพื่อวิชาชีพ อีกทั้งทุกหลักสูตรมีการฝึกทักษะและการงานรวมอยู่ด้วย และ มหาวิทยาลัยยังมีชื่อเสียงทางการศึกษาด้านสื่อ และ แฟชั่น โดยเป็นหนึ่งในหลักสูตรที่ดีที่สุดในโลก
