University of Hertfordshire เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยของรัฐบาล เดิมเป็นสถาบันโพลีเทคนิคทำการก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1952 แต่รัฐบาลของอังกฤษได้ประกาศยกระดับให้เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยในปี 1992 จึงได้รับงบจากรัฐบาลจำนวนมหาศาลในการลงทุนพัฒนาปรับปรุงให้มหาวิทยาลัยมีความทันสมัยอย่างมากในปััจจจุบัน
ตัวมหาวิทยาลัยตั้งอยู่ที่เมือง Hatfield ทางตอนเหนือกรุงลอนดอนประมาณ 30 กิโลเมตร เปิดทำการสอนตั้งแต่ระดับชั้นปริญญาตรีจนถึงปริญญาเอก ปัจจุบันมีนักศึกษาทั้งหมดประมาณ 25,000 คน โดยมีนักศึกษาต่างชาติประมาณ 2,000 คน
มหาวิทยาลัยนี้มีชื่อเสียงด้านหลักสูตรทางธุรกิจเป็นอย่างมาก โดยสาขาที่ได้รับความนิยมค่อนข้างมาก ได้แก่ Business, Marketing, Management, Engineering and Technology เป็นต้น
และในปี 2018 มหาวิทยาลัยถูกจัดอันดับให้อยู่ในมหาวิทยาลัยระดับเหรียญทองจาก TEF (Teaching Excellence Framework)
เนื่องจากมีคุณภาพทางการสอนที่ดี และความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยกับองค์กรชั้นนำของประเทศอังกฤษ ทำให้นักศึกษาที่เรียนจบจากมหาวิทยาลัยนี้ ได้รับการตอบรับเข้าทำงานในบริษัทใหญ่ๆ เช่น Hilton, PWC, IBM, P&G, Airbus เป็นต้น ในอัตราสูงถึง 96 เปอร์เซนต์

University of Hertfordshire ตั้งอยู่ที่เมือง Hatfield เป็นเมืองที่มีความสวยงาม เงียบสงบ และห่างจากกรุงลอนดอนเพียงรถไฟแค่ 25 นาทีเท่านั้น ปัจจุบันมี 2 วิทยาเขต ได้แก่ College Lane และ de Havilland มหาวิทยาลัยยังมีสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกมากมายให้กับนักศึกษา เช่น อาคารศึกษาค้นคว้าขนาดใหญ่, โรงอาหารที่มีอาหารแทบทุกประเภทให้เลือก, ร้านกาแฟ, โรงยิมขนาดใหญ่, ห้องฟิตเนส, คลับกิจกรรมกว่า 100 คลับ เป็นต้น
รวมไปถึงหอพักที่มีห้องหลากหลายแบบให้นักศึกษาได้เลือก โดยตั้งอยู่ห่างจากตึกเรียนไม่เกิน 10 นาทีเท่านั้น นอกจากนี้เมือง Hatfield ยังรายล้อมไปด้วยสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวมากมาย เช่น พิพิธภัณฑ์, ห้างสรรพสินค้า, ร้านอาหารมากมายหลายชนิด เป็นต้น
